“Naaaa the prices for grocery shopping are ridiculous right now, you might as well eat outside!” the WAP singer tweeted on Jan. 3.

She then posted another tweet: “Why is salad $6 where I live?”

While some of her Twitter followers expressed their sympathy, others suggested that this is less of an issue for a wealthy music star than it is for the average person.

“Girl you’re rich as hell cut the shit you’re not one of us anymore,” one person wrote.

“You’re rich, why do you care?” wrote another.

That sparked an explosive-laden video rant on Twitter the next day.

“Let me tell you something when I’m complaining about food prices and you’re all like, ‘Aren’t you rich? Why are you complaining about lettuce, why are you complaining about that?’” Cardi B said in the video.

“That just goes to show me if you become successful, if you have money, you’re going to go broke soon because you don’t have a budget.”

She added that she was sent a summary of her expenses each week and noticed how much higher her grocery bills had gotten.

“I went to a supermarket, I see everything has tripled in price,” she said, noting that lettuce had gone from $2 to $7 in a matter of months.

“Because if I think that’s crazy, I can only imagine what middle-class people or people in the Hood are thinking,” she added.

She ended by saying she wanted to do something about the runaway food prices.

“When you had to fight your way to the top and appreciate how hard you had to work to get there and stay as humble as possible to stay there,” one fan wrote.

“Everyone should know their budget and see what is happening to our country.”

“I’m with you Cardi. That’s what I just said,” added another.

“How do these people pay for food?

“I can, but how are single moms and hard-working families doing?”

Another user thanked Cardi for using her platform “to address the real issues, real Americans, hard working people struggling to make ends meet and provide for their families.”

“The fact that she’s not broke at all and is still concerned about the rapidly rising food prices should make her appreciate her contribution even more,” wrote one fan.

When a follower wrote that prices wouldn’t change because of her, she replied: “Not necessarily because of me, but if we raise enough awareness about inflation you never know.”
