The Range Rover Sport’s evaluation was based on tests of its larger sibling, although additional frontal offset and slant bar tests were conducted on a plug-in hybrid Sport to confirm the results.

It received similar category ratings: 85 percent for adult occupant protection, 86 percent for child protection, 69 percent for vulnerable road user protection, and 84 percent for safety assist.

The five-star rating for both SUVs applies to all variants of the respective model range.

The safety agency praised the performance of the two SUVs’ autonomous emergency braking systems, giving them full marks for protecting adults and children in the side impact test and for protecting the driver in the inclined mast test.

However, ANCAP has indicated the lack of a center airbag and reverse AEB with pedestrian detection on both models.

Standard safety equipment in Australia for both model ranges includes:

  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Surround view camera
  • Adaptive Cruise with Lane Keeping Assist
  • Parking sensors front and rear
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert

The Range Rover models, along with the Nissan X-Trail and Toyota Corolla Cross, have received some of the most recent ratings under the current 2020-22 test and judging criteria.

“As we near the end of this 2020-2022 protocol period and look towards an expanded testing program from 2023, it is gratifying to see that a number of brands are delivering sustained high levels of safety performance,” said Carla, Chief Executive Officer of ANCAP Hörweg .
