Radio host Erin Molan ‘marries’ herself in sweet ceremony: ‘Why wait until you meet the right one?’

Erin Molan has shared a glimpse of the ceremony in which she alongside other single women chose to “marry themselves” as a practice of “self-love.”

The radio host walked the ceremony as part of her radio show Hughesy, Ed & Erin and admitted in a candid Instagram post that she was encouraged to attend by her daughter Eliza.

“I’ll be perfectly honest…I didn’t mean to…do this at all,” Molan began her post on Tuesday.

She said her radio crew came up with the concept of “marrying yourself” in late 2022 because many of her listeners are also single.

“We just thought, WHY wait until you meet the right one… just get married yourself,” she wrote.

“Self love and all that…something I’ve never bought into that much…until now…but I’m not quite there yet.

“I didn’t know what was coming when I agreed… and then we lost dad…

“And one of the million things that broke my heart in the process was the realization that he could never walk me down the aisle… 😒”

Molan’s father was former Liberal Senator Jim Molan, who died in January 2023 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“I’ve never dreamed of getting married and it’s never really been that important to me,” she said.

“But the thought of even doing it for a radio segment without him made me nauseous … and I almost retired so many times.

“I didn’t want to get emotional and ruin it for all the beautiful and excited listeners who did the same and were so far ahead of me in realizing that the greatest love of all has to be love for yourself.

“I was a bit embarrassed too…

“I guess I never imagined that at this point in my life I would be a 39-year-old single mom and not married.”

Molan said it was her four-year-old daughter Eliza who put her across the line.

“I told her about it and she was more excited than I’ve ever seen her … and that helped a lot,” she said.

“I actually had a prom. I’m so thankful for my radio family and the wonderful listeners who inspire me every morning. I love you all.”

The ceremony was attended by co-moderator Dave Hughes and Chris Minns, who has now been elected Prime Minister of NSW.

The shared video showed Molan walking down the aisle alongside her daughter, in a dazzling, diaphanous white wedding dress and holding a bouquet of white roses.

Molan shared photos and videos of herself with the other brides, who were all in wedding dresses and seated at a long table.

Molan’s friends and supporters used the comments to congratulate the journalist.

Christina Perri’s ballad “A Thousand Years” played over the footage.

“You look beautiful 😍,” said TV presenter Sophie Monk.

“Very moving. Your honesty is beautiful. ❀️,” said journalist Kate Langbroek.

“I love that! There is so much emphasis on romantic relationships that people forget the relationship we have with ourselves! And with our platonic friends! Good job!!” wrote one follower.

What a great segment. You’ve helped / empowered all these lovely women to accept that they don’t need a man to enjoy real, pure love and given them a chance to celebrate it in style πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜,” said another.
