Quinta Brunson signs deal with Warner Bros. TV

Warner Bros. Television Group has signed comedian Quinta Brunson to a multi-year deal.

Widely known for her acclaimed hit comedy Abbott Elementary, Brunson developed the breakout series as part of the studio and will continue to serve as executive producer, writer and actress on the show as part of the deal. Warner Bros. Television produces the show in association with 20th Television.

Brunson will also create, develop and produce original programming for all platforms, including but not limited to Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max, external streaming platforms, cable channels and the US broadcast networks.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal marks Brunson’s first exclusive overall deal with a major studio.

“I’m excited to expand my longstanding creative partnership with Warner Bros. with Abbott as our anchor and look forward to what we create next,” Brunson said.

“Quinta Brunson is a masterpiece and a powerhouse and we are delighted to continue our partnership with her through this new overall deal. What Quinta and her Abbott Elementary team accomplished in season one is simply extraordinary,” added Channing Dungey, chairman of Warner Bros. Television Group, in a statement. “We can’t wait for season two and explore many future projects with her in the years to come. I am so grateful to have Quinta as part of our WBTV family and look forward to many more years of fruitful collaboration.”

Brunson’s relationship with the studio dates back to 2018 when she was co-directed for The CW by executive producers/writers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, who later reunited with Brunson, on the WBTV pilot The End of the World as We Know It “Abbott Elementary School.” She also appeared in the WBTV/DC drama “iZombie” for The CW.

The writer and executive producer is currently up for three Emmy Awards this year for Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actress and Writing. She is the first black woman to receive three nominations in the comedy categories in the same year. At 32, Brunson is also the youngest black woman ever to be nominated in the comedy actress category.

Brunson is represented by Authentic Talent & Literary Management, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang and Persona PR.
