After a relaunch in June, Sony’s PS Plus membership now offers access to a games-on-demand library (well, if you’re paying for either of the two pricier tiers). As with Microsoft competing Xbox Game Pass servicePS Plus is starting to add multiple games on a regular monthly basis – the content wheel needs to keep turning.

The increase came last month of the cat game Stray next to a ton from Assassin’s Creed games, Ubisoft’s long-running series of historical stable Sims. Some of the planned titles for August—Bugsnax! yakuza! – are exciting. But the service still falls short when it comes to one of its big promises: a robust classic games library. Here’s everything coming to Sony’s games-on-demand service starting August 16:

  • Bugsnax
  • Dead by daylight
  • Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Metro Exodus
  • monopoly madness
  • monopoly plus
  • Trials of Mana
  • Yakuza Kiwami
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2
  • Yakuza 0
  • U.N.

The asymmetrical horror game from Behavior Interactive Dead by daylight is a welcome addition and gives players who have been on the fence a chance to try it out. yakuzaI am contractually obliged to say because of my job at kotaku, is and will be worth your time. However, some other additions are less exciting. The PS5 version of Bugsnax was available free to PS Plus subscribers at launch in November 2020. Ghost Recon Wildlands also landed on Xbox Game Pass earlier this month, so clearly Ubisoft wants people to play this game, unashamedly chauvinistic as it is.

The lineup still leaves a lot to be desired, especially for those paying for the most expensive premium tier, which costs $18 per month or $120 per year. Prior to the launch of the PS Plus revamp, Sony touted its classic games library – made up of titles from the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable catalogs – as its main selling point. To date, this section, which includes classic games from all three platforms, includes a total of 41 titles. But hey, at least we get a relatively decent 2020 remake of a square RPG from 1995! Do you want to guess which platform it was originally on?

The SNES.
