Prithviraj Sukumaran on board Yodlee Films’ “Kaapa”

India’s Yoodlee Films adds “Kaapa” to its Malayalam-language roster, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran (“Driving License”), one of the industry’s top stars.

Touted as an action thriller, the film is directed by veteran Shaji Kailas (“15th” and Anna Ben (“Helen”).

Kaapa, which has started principal photography, is co-produced by Jinu V. Abraham and Dolwin Kuriakose for Theater of Dreams and the Writers Union of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), the first-ever film to be endorsed by FEFKA becomes. It was written by GR Indugopan (“Wolf”).

Sukumaran also stars as the late cookie baron Rajan Pillai in a series produced by Yoodlee.

Founded in 2017, Yoodlee Films is the film division of Saregama India, India’s oldest music label. So far 20 titles have been produced. His first film, Devashish Makhija’s Ajji, screened at the festivals in Busan, Rotterdam and Gothenburg.

Yoodlee is also on board the Malayalam-language political thriller Padavettu, co-produced with Sunny Wayne, directed by Liju Krishna and directed by Nivin Pauly (Premam), due out this year. Other starring roles include Shine Tom Chacko, Aditi Balan, Shammi Thilakan, Manoj Omen and Remya Suresh.

Yoodlee’s investigative thriller Anweshippin Kandethum, starring Tovino Thomas (Minnal Murali) as an upstanding cop and directed by Darwin Kuriakose, is currently in filming.

Sukumaran said, “‘Kaapa’ will be one of the best in its genre and I’m glad Yoodlee has come up with such great projects and ventured into the Malayalam industry. I’m really looking forward to ‘Kaapa’ and we started with a bang.”

Kailas’ last film was Kaduva, starring Sukumaran, which came out earlier this month and was a box office success.
