“Princess Diaries 3” is said to be an attempt at Disney, Anne Hathaway has not confirmed

A threequel is never late. All other films are just too early.

The Princess Diaries 3 is in development at Disney, reports Indiewire. The film is intended to be a sequel to the original 2001 films The Princess Diaries and 2004s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aadrita Mukerjiwho previously worked in television super girl and quantum leapis attached to the script, and Debra Martin Chasea producer on the first two installments in the franchise, will be returning.

The big question is who will sit on the throne in the upcoming installment. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews played Princess Mia and Queen Clarisse, respectively, in the first two films, which were adapted from author Meg Cabot’s popular young adult novels. It’s not yet known if either will return for the new film, although Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight last month that she would be “aiming at” a third film in the franchise.

“I would more than entertain it, I draw for it,” Hathaway said. “If there’s a way to get Julie Andrews involved, we’d make it work.

In 2019, Hathaway also narrated Andy Cohen See what’s happening live that there was a script for the film. That same year, Andrews played it a little cooler on the show, saying she “hadn’t heard” there was a finished script, “but it’s been talked about for quite a while.” In a recent appearance on WWHL last month, Hathaway said of the threequel, “Oh, I’m so sorry it’s not Christmas. But we hope. We hope, we work, we plan, we dream. All the things. Keep praying it works.”

The Princess Diaries follows the story of Mia Thermopolis, a Bay Area teenager who regularly learns that –surprise! – she is actually the heir to the throne of the small European country of Genovia. Indulge in the makeover montages and identity crises, not to mention The Princess Diaries 2, the feature film debut of one Chris Evans. Our casting wish list – alongside Hathaway and Andrews, of course – is for a cameo appearance by California’s most notorious ex-royals, Prince Harry and Megan Markle.

vanity fair has reached out to Disney for comment.

To put it in the words of Princess Mia herself: As always, this is the best there is.
