Prey: Predator Star Jesse Ventura Praises Hulu Prequel

Jesse Ventura thinks ‘Prey’ star Amber Midthunder ‘don’t have time to bleed’

The actor – who starred opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 original ‘Predator’ – expressed his praise for the latest entry in the franchise, calling the prequel a “wonderful movie.”

“Great, great movie,” Ventura wrote in a Twitter post Saturday night, highlighting Midthunder’s performance. “Welcome to the Predator family. [Director Dan Trachtenberg] thank you so much for making such a thoughtful, creative and wonderful film.”

Both Midthunder and Trachtenberg were blown away by the approval of the “Predator” actor and former Minnesota governor, who expressed his gratitude for Ventura’s praise.

“Thank you sir! Thanks for watching and so glad you appreciated what we did!!” Trachtenberg answered to Ventura.

“I…I don’t know how to…thank you.” Midthunder wrote in her own stunned reply.

“Prey” has been making waves over the weekend since it debuted on Hulu. The Predator prequel has garnered an enthusiastic response from critics, earning an approval rating of 91% from top critics on review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. Fans also seem to be liking the film, taking to social media to praise the new twist on the action franchise.

“Prey” takes “Predator” to the 17th century Great Plains and follows a Comanche woman named Naru (Midthunder) as she tries to prove her skills as a hunter. When an alien contacts Dreadlocks and starts killing for fun, Naru must team up with her brother (Dakota Beavers) to defeat the enemy.

The film is the first “Predator” entry to debut outside of theaters, though Trachtenberg has shared that the streaming release schedule hasn’t constrained the production in its mission to create a theatrical experience befitting the franchise. Beavers also spoke diversity to discuss the prominent portrayal of Native Americans in the film.

“I saw certain people talking before the preview came out, ‘How are these people with sticks and rocks going to be able to defeat the Predator?'” Beavers said. “They were very capable people … There was a lot going on in North America before history was made for these people. It was quite a lively area. And they were pretty skilled people. Just because it was a little different than their neighbors across the pond doesn’t mean they were incompetent.”

“Prey” is now streaming on Hulu.
