Preset Google Messages to disable pinch-to-zoom text

Google Messages is preparing a new setting that will prevent you from accidentally zooming and increasing the size of your text.

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insights” post, we decompiled the latest version of the app that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we can see various lines of code in that hint of possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever offer these features, and our interpretation of what they have may not be perfect. However, we will try to activate the near-finished products to show you what they will look like in the event they do ship. With that in mind, read on.

Turn off pinch to zoom

On today’s Google Messages, you can quickly increase or decrease the size of the text on your screen with a simple pinch gesture. In practical terms, this could be useful for someone who can quickly read an incoming text and reply without having to find their glasses first. However, for others, this feature is more likely to be accidentally activated, making your conversation strange for no apparent reason.

In the latest update for Google Messages – version 2022–121, out now for beta testers – we’ve discovered work towards a new toggle option in the settings.

Pinch to zoom conversation text

Our Dylan Roussel tried to force the toggle to appear in Settings and disable it. As you’d expect, once disabled, Google Messages no longer responds to the usual pinch gesture to adjust text size.

In our testing, we also found that the app will keep whatever font size you’re currently zooming in when you disable the toggle. Once satisfied with the font size for Google Messages, you can lock it using this toggle.

Right now, this option isn’t working for everyone using Google Messages, but it’s basically available as of today, possibly just a few weeks before it’s rolled out to the general public.

Thanks to JEB Decompilerfrom which some tears of APK Insight benefit.
