Noah Hawley’s limited series has been pushed back until he finishes Season 5 of “Fargo”.
Noah Hawleylimited FX series based on “Alien“It’s one of the most anticipated sci-fi projects in development right now, but fans will have to wait a little longer for the series to come to fruition. Talk to the Television Critics Association This week, FX president John Landgraf said that the prolific presenter will be filming a fifth season of “Fargo” before joining Ridley Scottsci-fi universe.
“We need to shoot Fargo this winter, so we’re going to shoot Fargo before ‘Alien’, even though we have more scripts for ‘Alien’ than Fargo,” he said. “Noah is currently writing both.” With the filming of “Fargo” this winter, that will push “Alien” to a start date in 2023. There’s no word yet on when the film might finally come out.
While it was previously confirmed that the “Alien” series will be set on Earth – the first entry in the franchise to do so – Landgraf has provided more information on the mystery show’s plot. The series will be a prequel to the original “Alien”, which takes place before Ripley arrives on screen. The FX CEO says that Hawley’s show will take place on Earth at the end of the 21st century, about 70 years from now. Scott’s original “Alien” is set in the year 2122, so the series will precede it by three decades. Landgraf also confirmed that none of the characters from the pre-existing “Alien” movies will appear on the show.
“All I can tell you is that Ripley won’t be joining and any other characters – other than the aliens themselves,” he said. “Noah has an amazing ability to both find a way to be faithful and show loyalty to the original creation, like the Coen brothers or to the Ridley Scott film and James Cameron’s Aliens sequel ‘Aliens.‘ but offers something new that represents both an expansion and a reinvention of the franchise at the same time.”
While the undeniably delay will disappoint some fans, Landgraf believes the show will be worth the wait. He has heaped praise on Hawley’s unconventional direction, saying that “setting it up on Earth is really fun. We have to think about the future of the planet in terms of environment, governance, technology and create and design a version of the future planet,” he said. “Noah wanted to do it in a special and original way.”
