Who’s ready for the 2022 edition of “Arch Madness?”

City of St. Louis welcomes 10 teams to the Missouri Valley Conference as this year’s tournament closes on Thursday night from the Enterprise Center at 6 p.m. CT (local time). Indiana State No. 8 vs. No. 8 Illinois, followed by No. 10 Evansville against No. 8 Valparaiso in the 8:30 p.m. game.

The Loyola Chicago Ramblers, despite placing fourth in the conference, is the favorite consensus candidate at WynnBET Sportsbook at +135. The top seed Northern Iowa holds the 1st seed overall, but is second in conference tournament odds with +375.

Loyola Chicago is still a bubble team, now predicted to be the 12th seed at BracketMatrix. Earlier on Tuesday, ESPN rocket expert Joe Lunardi moved Loyola Chicago from his “Last Four In” to “First Four Out” after San Diego State likely qualified for the NCAA men’s tournament with a road victory in Wyoming on Monday night.

Above BetSided’s “Best Bets” on Tuesday In the video below, I made my case for the 2nd seed of the Missouri State Bears to be crowned “Arch Madness” champions while they were still listed at WynnBET at +550 odds.

That number has since grown to +400, still third behind Loyola Chicago and Northern Iowa, but certainly down from where they were. Is it because our knowledgeable team and discussion have moved the line? Almost certainly not, but there are plenty of reasons to buy into Bears with very favorable odds.

First, in the NCAA Tournament, we always discuss games and how a 3rd seed in one region can have a much better draw result than a 1st seed in another. The same can be said in MVC, where Missouri State holds the No. 2 seed, potentially forcing the two strongest teams in Loyola Chicago (No. 4) and Northern Iowa (No. 1) to eliminate the other in the process. .

Then there are the numbers. Missouri leads the Missouri Valley (22nd overall) in adjusted offensive effectiveness in KenPomwhile ranking third in effective goalscoring rate on the pitch, number 1 in rotations, and they shoot from the free-throw range with a rate of 79.6%.

Defensively, Bradley was excellent, but Missouri State came in second in terms of opponent’s effective %FG while also topping the league in two-point percentage.

This is the way KenPom rank every team in MVC on both offense and defense

Ultimately, when it comes to individual talent on the field, it’s hard to identify two players who are better than the top two Missouri State players, junior Isiaih Mosley and senior forward Gaige Prim. Both are Missouri Valley’s first team this year, as Mosley averages 20 points a game while shooting just 44% less from the three-point range.

The bears are super efficient at attacking, taking care of the basketball, and making free throws at long range. Defensively, they might not be the elite, but they’re nowhere near the bottom either. In the end, with the right mix of schedule, planning and talent on the floor, I think they’re a great bet to cut the net and make it into the Tournament.

PICK: Missouri State (+400)

Southern Illinois (+1400) was the top three-point shooter in the conference, and also ranked third in adjusted defensive effectiveness. They meet in the final match of the quarterfinals on Friday against Drake, where they’ve lost both games this season by an average of 1.5 points.

I will probably bet Salukis will make it difficult for the Bulldogs, which will set up a very interesting matchup with me picking Missouri State to win them all. But when you shoot among the best three point shooters in the country while appearing on both sides of the ball, you have as good a chance as anyone in this type of environment.

Dark Horse Lean: SIU +1400
