Predictions and odds between Boise State vs. UNLV (Back Broncos on Road)

Boise State is on track to claim the Mountain West regular-season title, but must keep serve on its way against an experienced UNLV team.

Boise and UNLV met a few weeks ago against the Broncos using a second-half surge to knock out Runnin’ Rebels by six. However, with the underdog team playing the best basketball of the season behind star Bryce Hamilton, are they the direct underdog on Saturday night?

I’m not the biggest believer in Boise State this season, but think this line is a good time to sell their opponent, UNLV, who are seen as a dangerous but possible Mountain West Tournament club getting too much credit here.

Since the team disbanded in the second half on their way to BSU, Runnin’ Rebs have won three in a row, two of which are once again formidable foes Fresno State and Colorado State, as they seek revenge.

UNLV’s Hamilton is playing at an absurd level, second in the country in terms of attempt-scoring percentage (he’s taken over 40% of the team’s shots this season, every KenPom) and scored 32 goals in the last loss. However, I trust Boise State wings like Abu Kigab, among others, to stick with him and get him to work.

Meanwhile, the biggest edge in this game is on the glass. Boise State is the third-best defensively resilient team in the country and isn’t too bad in attack either, generating the third-best %OREB in the conference game.

UNLV that way is the average of the pack in terms of defense rebound while not frequently forcing reversals. Boise’s foul has a question mark but I’m confident they will create a second chance and go to the free-throw line.

Hamilton may be the core, but I’ll be with the better team to win and stay at the top of the MWC rankings.
