Predict Ohio State at Michigan, Oklahoma at Oklahoma State, Alabama at Auburn and more – The Athletic

Every week during college football season, The AthleticCollege football writers will be making their picks against disparities for the biggest games on the schedule. Our in-depth reports from every team are linked below the picks.

Thanksgiving week football is always great because we have games on so many days in a row. In the world of college football, that means Thursday’s Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Bowl and a series of Fridays featuring six of the top 25 teams in action.

After the merger of Michigan State, Ohio State is still the focus of attention with a big game against Michigan. The winner will win the Big Ten East and stay in the College Football Qualifier race. The Buckeyes look like a delinquent and have owned Michigan in recent years. The Wolverines are a single-digit weaker team at home, which seems crazy considering Ohio State’s recent performances. However, Austin Mockprojection model of only support Ohio State 6.8 points.

As for our picks last week, there was a lot of mediocrity and I’m sure no one in the comments will say anything about some of our records. We all have SMU side by side with Cincinnati, which isn’t close to happening, but three of us have Utah against Oregon favorites and it’s a non-competitive game.

The plot of Ole Miss-Mississippi State

Betting As an aside in this game, you do it at your own risk considering the Egg Bowl’s reputation for having bizarre, wild games. We’re all opinionated and insurgent, but every neutral is a winner because getting this game in prime time slot on Thanksgiving gives us another alternative to the schedule. Thursday of the NFL.

Boise State (-2.5) in 21st place San Diego State

The Storyline of Boise State-San Diego State

Both of these teams are playing for something with five teams still hunting for two spots in the Mountain West title game. San Diego State has the national ranking and 10-1 record, but is still behind Boise State with 3 losses. The three of us were riding with the Aztecs and their might.

North Carolina in 20th North Carolina State (-6.5)

7 p.m. Friday, ESPN

North Carolina-North Carolina State Storyline

Sam Howell and North Carolina didn’t have the kind of season they expected at the start of the year. A win in the competition here will heal a lot of wounds. North Carolina State is pursuing a divisional title (if it helps). Just like with Boise, Jason Starrett is the more outlier here.

Ranked 2nd in Ohio State (-8) in 5th place Michigan

The Ohio State-Michigan Storyline

Did you see the Buckeyes play Michigan State? Did you see what they did last week against Purdue? Have you seen the recent head-to-head record when these teams played? Ohio State’s 10 wins all by eight points this season, and the Buckeyes have won five of their six meetings in this streak by double-digit numbers. Michigan must prove it can compete with Ohio State before this is handled rival game, where inexplicably competitive games are the norm. That’s why we all went with OSU here.

Texas Tech at Baylor No. 8 (-14.5)

Saturday noon, FS1

Pick

Ari Wasserman

The plot of Texas Tech-Baylor

Baylor favored by more than two touchdowns? Feel the risk. Texas Tech has been knocked out of Oklahoma (31) and Oklahoma State (23) in recent weeks, so if Baylor were in the same tier as those teams, the Bears would include.

Number 3 Alabama (-195) in Auburn

3:30 p.m. Saturday, CBS

Pick

The plot of Alabama-Auburn

Unlike Michigan against Ohio State, Auburn was able to make the Iron Bowl competitive despite the sometimes huge talent gap between the teams. This is one of those years where the gap is quite wide. Auburn only went 6-5 and lost three games in a row, but the Tigers have won three of their last four at Auburn against the Crimson Tide. In seven trips to Auburn during his tenure in Alabama, Nick Saban has only won 20 or more times so coverage here is no small feat.

Penn State is in 12th place Michigan State (-1.5)

Plot of Penn State-Michigan State

Penn State Midfielder Sean Clifford is expected to return for this match after picking up an injury last week. The line has since moved to have Penn State as a favorite on the road. Can the Spartans recover from their terrible loss at Columbus?

State of Oregon at 11 Oregon (-7)

3:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN

Pick

Dan Santaromita

Jason Starrett

Chris Vannini

Ari Wasserman

Oregon State-Oregon plot

If Washington beats Washington State on Friday, the winner of this game will decide the Pac-12 North title. Like Michigan State, Oregon must bounce back from a modest, season-changing defeat. The Ducks win the division with a win here. Oregon State won last year, but hasn’t won in Eugene since 2007.

Number 14 Wisconsin (-6.5) in Minnesota

4 p.m. Saturday, Fox

Pick

Ari Wasserman

The plot of Wisconsin-Minnesota

Wisconsin is playing well lately. The Big Ten West’s schedule may have exaggerated the beauty of the Badgers, but Minnesota is home to the Big Ten West team. Wisconsin owns this head-to-head record (16-1 in the last 17 meetings). None of us are willing to go against the trend while placing less than one touch down.

Number 10 Oklahoma at Number 7 Oklahoma State (-4)

7:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC

Pick

Oklahoma-Oklahoma State plot

Oklahoma isn’t doing so well this year, but the Sooners are still in the CFP race if they win two in a row over the Cowboys, which have come out on top in the Big 12 title game. The Cowboys recently crushed the teams thanks to a elite defender. Is this an OK State breakthrough or will OU continue to dominate the series? The Sooners won six in a row and 16 of 18 at Bedlam.
