SRH
SRH

SRH won their game of everything and everything last night thanks to an excellent batting performance from Rahul Tripathi and the bowling masterclass from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik. The 2016 IPL champions finally ended their 5-game losing streak by defeating the Mumbai Indians, who had only one other to blame for the loss.

Tim David hit 49/18 when the equation came out 19/13. After hitting 4 pre-over sixes by Natarajan in the 18th over. However, desperate to hold the bat, he took a risky run on last ball and was discharged at the non-striker end. It was a Bhuvi masterclass after that as he rolled over a first wicket and it became too difficult for the Mumbai Indians to take 19 from the last over. However, the win does not guarantee SRH a place in the top 4.

Possible scenarios for SRH to still make it to the playoffs of IPL 2022 2

The win over Mumbai Indians keeps Sunrisers Hyderabad still 8th in the points table due to their negative net run rate. However, that does not exclude them from play-off qualification. Hyderabad can still go ahead if other results point in the right direction. Most importantly, Sunrisers Hyderabad must defeat the Punjab Kings to eliminate their direct rivals from qualifying.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also need Kolkata Knight Riders to lose to Lucknow Super Giants tonight. If that doesn’t happen they will need to beat Punjab by a huge margin to ensure their net run rate is higher than KKR as both teams will be on 14 points. Sunrisers Hyderabad also needs Royal Challengers Bangalore to lose their latest game against Gujrat.

A win for RCB puts them on 16 points. That would eliminate SRH, KKR and Punjab Kings straight away. Finally, the Delhi Capitals have to lose their last game against the Mumbai Indians. If all goes well Sunrisers Hyderabad will share 4th place with 4 other teams with 14 points and the team with the best NRR will advance. While that’s an unlikely scenario, it’s still a possibility for SRH.
