Police officer covered in blood during violent arrest at Stocklands Shopping Center in Toowoomba

A police officer was covered in blood after being punched in the face at a Queensland mall.

The police officer was patrolling the Stocklands Shopping Center in Townsville on Thursday night when she and a colleague tried to detain a man.

During the fight, the man is said to have hit the officer.

He allegedly broke her nose and possibly suffered a concussion.

The officer, in her 30s, was taken to Townsville University Hospital but has since been released.

“This officer has since been released and is back home, so we will provide appropriate care and support to ensure she recovers from this incident as quickly as possible,” Superintendent Chris Lawson said.

The man was arrested before being taken to the hospital.

He is now being treated under the Mental Health Act.

Charges have yet to be brought.
