Police are investigating a possible double homicide after a woman’s body was found in Melbourne CBD

Police are investigating a possible double homicide after the body of a second woman was found in Melbourne’s CBD.

On the evening of December 27, officers were called to an apartment on La Trobe Street after a 31-year-old Chinese woman was found dead.

A 22-year-old man from Huntingdale, south-east Melbourne, has been charged with murder, robbery and theft after a public appeal and an extensive police search.

They found the body of a 51-year-old Docklands woman in an apartment on Waterside Place.

Investigators have yet to determine the exact circumstances of the death but treated it as suspicious and believed it was linked to the death of the first woman, police said.

Officers believe both women knew the Huntingdale man, and detectives were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Police are urging anyone who saw suspicious activity near the Docklands apartment or had CCTV surveillance between December 27 and 29 to come forward.

“I understand that following the deaths of these two women this week, there is a great deal of concern and concern from the community, particularly those living in the CBD and surrounding suburbs,” said Dean Thomas, Detective Acting Superintendent for Crime Squad.

“At this time there is nothing to indicate we are looking for any other victims and we have a man in custody who was known to both women.

“He has been charged in connection with the death of the 31-year-old woman who was at the Latrobe Street flat and our investigation into his connection to the second death is ongoing.”

Police made sure the women’s families had access to support services, and officers’ thoughts were with them during this devastating time, Det. Thomas said.

The Huntingdale man was remanded in custody on Friday to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in May.
