Pokémon Tournaments allow Mythical Pokémon for ranked play

Competitive Pokemon Trainers are both excited and shocked by the recent rule changes in the Video Game Championships (VGC), where players compete against each other via Pokémon sword and Sign in a number of leagues. Mythical Pokémon are now eligible for official tournament play for the first time. That means no one is safe from heavy hitters like Megearna or Victini and the community is scrambling to find counters. Some of the truly evil players have already started adding broken Pokemon to their own teams.
The rules for the latest Series 13 ranked matches, starting September 1st, were released yesterday for Pokémon sword and Sign, this series focused on the Galar region. The rules remained essentially the same as the last series, with the exception of an expanded Pokémon list. The information was originally discovered by the Pokemon fansite Serebiiand kotaku was able to confirm the full list of eligible Pokémon in the Pokémon Home apartment
Mythical Pokemon are better known as Event Legendaries and are usually almost impossible to obtain through normal gameplay. This group includes Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Arceus, and so on. Previously, you had to participate in special personal events to get these rare Pokémon. Now the only Mythical Pokemon that are banned from the eligibility list are the ones that are unobtainable sword and Sign.
These days, mythical Pokemon are a lot easier to get than they were in the past. The dreaded Megearna can be obtained by completing the Alola Pokédex in Pokemon sun and moonand Mew can be captured and transferred from there Pokemon GO apartment Victini can be captured in the Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC. Therefore, not having access to time-limited events is now less of a competitive disadvantage than it was in the past.
The new series rules further complicate the meta: there are no limits on the number of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon players can bring to a ranked match. Previously, according to the “GS rules” introduced in , up to two Legendaries were allowed in tournaments Pokemon heartgold and soulsilver.
