Pokémon Scarlet and Violetthe next two games in main line Pokémon seriesis coming to Nintendo Switch later this year, The Pokémon Company announced during today’s Pokémon Event.

The reveal comes at the end of a 14-minute live stream and shows what looks like this year’s hybrid world. Pokémon Legends: Arceus and in 2020 Sword Pokémon and Shield. There are large open spaces, bright town squares, and lots of lens flare. The Pokémon also seem to be much more responsive to additional animations when they appear in the wild.

Here is the intro:

As far as bright red and Violetis the new starter trio of Gen 9 Pokémon, but the grass type seems to be some kind of cat, the fire type looks like a small dinosaur, and the water type is some kind of bird. Japanese name is Nyaoha, Hogeta and Kuwassu respectively, but we don’t have an English version yet. My first impression is that I’ve enjoyed these intros more than since Generation 5 Unova region.

bright red and Violetnew meanwhile, the area seems to be the Mediterranean. The trailer shows pricey beaches and what looks like some Spanish-influenced architecture. Fans have speculated that Gen 9 may be based in Italy or some regions of France based on possible suggestions in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls.

Many had previously expected the new DLC to be announced for Arceus. When Sword and Shield was released, The Pokémon Company took a sabbatical the following year and offered fans two expansions instead. This year’s plan is much more ambitious. Players will effectively receive Pokémon BDSP remake, the first series of open world games, and a whole new series of main games over the span of a year.
