Pokemon Go 2022 Lunar New Year Event Guide: Field Research Quests and Rewards


The Lunar New Year event is now available in Pokemon Go, and this year it revolves around the red Pokemon. Players can join the event from Feb 1st to Feb 7th and like most Pokemon Go certain event-specific Pokemon will have increased spawn rates, new rewards, and lots of research quests to complete. The event also marks the launch of the shiny Littleo, which most players will be trying to find before the event ends. Here are all the Field Research quests and rewards for Pokemon Go’s Lunar New Year event, along with everything else you need to know.

Pokemon Go schedule for the Lunar New Year 2022

As noted above, Pokemon Go’s Lunar New Year event will begin on Tuesday, February 1 at 8 p.m. local time and conclusion about Monday, February 7 at 8 p.m. local time. All rewards and research quests will be available throughout the week long event, but make sure you complete all research from time to time before the event ends.

Pokemon Go Lunar New Year 2022 Field Research Quests and Rewards

There are 8 event-specific Field Research Quests during the 2022 Lunar New Year event, and Pokemon Go players can encounter event Pokemon and receive Gyardaos Mega Energy by completing them. Here is the complete list of Lunar New Year Field Research quests and rewards.

  • Catch 5 Pokemon: 25 Gyarados Mega Energy
  • Catch 5 Pokemon: Darumaka Encounter
  • Make 3 Curveball throws: Voltorb Encounter
  • Send 3 gifts: Magikarp Encounter
  • Send 3 Gifts and add a sticker to each: Little Encounter
  • Trade Pokemon: Little Encounter
  • Win the raid: Esurr Encounter

In addition to Field Research, there are also 2 Time Research missions available during the Lunar New Year event: Catch Challenge and Friendship Challenge. Guess what these quests involve catching Pokemon and socializing with friends. Thankfully, all the steps of the quest are quite simple and you will get all the rewards in no time.

There are 4 steps to Catch the challenge for the Lunar New Year event. These are all missions.

  • Catch 10 Pokemon: 10 balls
  • Catch 25 Pokemon: 15 amazing balls
  • Catch 25 Fire-type Pokémon: 20 super balls
  • Catch 10 different Pokemon species: Little Encounter

Reward: 1000 Stardust1000 XP, Esurr Encounter

Steps to challenge the friendship of the Lunar New Year

There are only 4 steps for Friendship challenge also. The final reward is currently unknown because of the 3-day gift requirement, but this guide will be updated as more information becomes available. These are all four missions.

  • Send 5 gifts and add a sticker for each: Torchic Encounter
  • Trade 3 Pokémon with a friend: Corphish Encounter
  • Send 15 gifts to friends: Darumaka Encounter
  • Send gifts 3 days in a row: Unknown encounter

Reward: 1000 Stardust, 1000 XP, Unknown Encounter

Enjoy Lunar New Year and fertility

Every Pokemon Go event has a bonus and the Lunar New Year event will grant players double the Stardust reward from opening gifts and increasing your chances of becoming Lucky friends with people. Players will also receive a Extra special deals every day plus increased chance of getting Lucky Pokemon from all professions.

In addition to those friendship-related rewards, some Pokemon will appear much more frequently in the wild. This year’s theme is red, so the following Pokemon have spawned a boost.

You will also be able to find Pokemon Raid for the duration of the event. Littleo, Magikarp, Shinx, Darumaka and Epurr will be available in one-star raid, while three-star raid will include Charizard, Flareon and Shuckle. If you join the Five Star Raid, then you can challenge Regirockand Mega Houndoom will cause a stir in Mega Raids during the Lunar New Year event.
