Nintendo fans in Brazil once again found themselves campaigning for a game localized in Portuguese. This time for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games. These Pokémon games are based on the Iberian peninsula, specifically Spain and Portugal. Since Scarlet and Violet are partly Portuguese inspired, it can be expected that Portuguese will be one of the languages available to use.
Based on current information, it doesn’t appear that Scarlet and Violet will be localized in Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese. This isn’t the first time Portuguese has been dropped from official localization for Nintendo games, as Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have yet to be localized to include Portuguese. Portuguese is Brazil’s official language, so fans from the country will rally to convince Nintendo to add Brazilian Portuguese to their games.
The campaign has been in the works for a while, with the Pokémon Unite mobile game finally adding a Brazilian Portuguese language option. Given the Spanish and Portuguese influence on Scarlet and Violet, it makes sense for Portuguese to be part of the game. With no official release date announced for the games beyond “late 2022”, there’s still plenty of time for fans to convince Nintendo to create a Portuguese localization.
