Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls there are a lot of glitches when they appear. Some so funny, most are harmless, but a few make it extremely easy for players to clone rare and powerful Pokémon in bulk. It was an absolute feeding frenzy. Now, the developers behind the Gen 4 remake are fighting back with a new line of code that prevents players from trading or fighting their tricked Pokémon.
patch Version 1.2.0 went live last night, adding Colosseum fights and Expanded Alliance Room function. But Nintendo’s vague patch notes also point to an important gameplay change. They read “Some Pokémon obtained through unintentional methods or illegal modifications cannot currently be used in Link Trades or Link Battles”.
According to Pokémon data expert Kaphotics, this is achieved thanks to a “PokeDupeChecker,” which looks at every Pokémon the player owns and flags it as suspected of being cloned. “When will this mirror check be activated? Open the trading window with other players or load into the game “he” wrote on Twitter. Kaphotics also notes that the checker only flags the second copy, leaving the player free trade and fight with their originals.
Players are starting to notice the change as soon as it goes live and was confused when large portions of their team had a big ban sign on them.
Unlike Traditional Pokémon “under attack”clone using BDSPCloning glitches are exact replicas of naturally occurring Pokémon. The only indication that they are “illegal” is if they completely match other Pokémon the player already owns. Therefore, the move appears to be designed to prevent the spread of than clone by locking existing ones to the game card where they currently exist.
It’s been months since the mass cloning issue was discovered, so in some ways the damage has already been done. However, the new PokeDupeChecker will help minimize the impact for new and old players. This is Pokémon we’re talking about that though, so players are clearly split in the new patch, with some excited to see Game Freak and ILCA finally in action, while others see the patches Star-like fun in a otherwise, it will make a strong impression with the remake number pair.
Over time, the patch will likely be out now to make way for Global Wonder Station fans who have been eagerly waiting. The original in-game DS included an auction trader, but players are hoping the revamped area will contain some new surprises. The Sinnoh area location has been “built up” since its launch.
