Acquisition speculation has started again as PlayStation updated its studio website’s banner with Death Stranding. Originally noticed by a user on Resetera, the PlayStation Studios website banner has been updated to include Death Stranding, which was being developed by Kojima Productions.
It’s worth noting that Sony owns Death Stranding’s IP since they released the game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The old banner featured Pixelopus’s Concrete Genie, a PlayStation Studios title, which makes it interesting that Sony replaced it with a game from a studio it doesn’t currently own. That being said, since Death Stranding Director’s Cut is a PlayStation 5 title, Sony could have done it while Concrete Genie was released on the PlayStation 4. The banner also includes Bluepoint Studio’s Demon’s Souls, an acquisition Sony made last year. Recently, Sony has also included Bungie and Haven Studios in its repertoire.
Kojima has expressed an ongoing interest in developing not only games but also films, television, music and anime at his studio. With PlayStation also experimenting in other media like the last one Unexplored film, it wouldn’t be surprising if this takeover materializes.
Kojima announced this last month Kojima Productions relocated without explaining why. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan recently told the PlayStation Podcast that plans to acquire other developers are still afoot.
