NS Minnesota Timberwolves fought bravely without Karl-Anthony Towns but eventually fell on his way to the Brooklyn Nets.

Timberwolves fall to Brooklyn Nets despite brave effort

The Wolves did not have the Karl-Anthony Towns available Friday night in Brooklyn due to a coccyx injury affected late in Wednesday’s loss to the Washington Wizards. It would be an acceptable excuse not to play against the Brooklyn Nets, currently the No. 1 seed at the Eastern Conference.

Instead, the Wolves came out early and played well, taking a seven-point lead late in the first quarter thanks to strong inner play from Naz Reid and Jarred Vanderbilt.

The Nets came back strong in the second quarter as Russell and Anthony Edwards were both relatively quiet, but eh Wolves were only led by four after halftime.

However, Russell was brought on in the second half and the Wolves performed poorly. The Wolves only lost control in the last minute, but Kevin Durant knocked out a mid-jumper to extend the lead to five, and Russell missed 10 feet in the final 12 seconds, which would have left approx. way lead back to three. .

The Wolves showed tenacity in front of the glass and backfield defense when turning it into a game and Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, and Leandro Bolmaro in particular made it difficult for both Durant and James Harden.

Let’s take a look at some player scores from the game.

Naz Reid: Ah

19 points (7-14 FG, 3-6 3P, 2-2 FT), 7 rebounds, one assist

It’s hard to imagine Naz Reid having a better match to relieve the Town. He started and played 34 minutes, scoring in a variety of ways: from the perimeter, dribbling and on the attacking glass.

He also defended firmly when he was moved into positions like Durant and Harden. Reid did what he could, and didn’t look too great in the starting role.

Jarred Vanderbilt: A

10 points (5-8 FG) 15 rebounds, 3 assists, one steal, one block

Vanderbilt played superbly, scoring a brace and playing defensively in the box when tasked with trying to slow Durant.

Vando is also very aggressive in attack, almost always going to the right place at the right time. He was his effective regular on the glass, pulling down 15 rebounds, including six of his varied attacks.

D’Angelo Russell: B-

21 points (6-22 FG, 3-10 3P, 6-6 FT), 11 assists, 3 rebounds, one steal

It wasn’t Russell’s most productive game, but he played well enough to keep the Wolves around despite the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns and a match without Anthony Edwards.

Russell started the match with just 2 to 10 and didn’t achieve any success until the second half, but he never really felt hot. However, he played defensively and distributed the ball well, scoring 11 assists in just four goals against his former side.

Anthony Edwards: C-

19 points (7-16 FG, 1-7 3P, 4-4 FT), 4 assists, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, 8 turnovers.

It was a tough performance by Edwards, who made eight returns and only had four assists. Of the eight passes, at least three were simply dribbling the ball away from his feet or throwing a pass to no one.

He also tackles step-by-step 3-pointing multiple times when guarded by a large. Edwards simply wasn’t in offensive mode this game, and while he was pretty defensive, didn’t attack enough to put his team in position to win the lane.

Overall, this was an encouraging performance for a short football team against one of the strongest teams in the league. Lose is lose, though, and the Wolves now have two goals in a row when they return home to face the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Player scores after Timberwolves’ loss at the Brooklyn Nets
