On two rare occasions, the December 2021 and January 2022 updates for the Pixel 6 series have been delayed from their usual first Monday of the month availability. The Pixel 6 OTA schedule looks like it will return to normal with the February security patch.
According to Canadian carrier Fido“Google Pixel 3a – 5” and “Pixel 6/6 Pro” will receive the February SMR (Security Maintenance Release) on Monday, February 7. (The first day of next month will fall on a Monday.) Three.)
This is the normal schedule that Google has historically followed. Device OTAs may arrive later in your part of the world, but Google will probably post factory images immediately that Monday. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6’s final update has a global version with no carrier variant.
Fido mentions “& more” for older Google phones, but we’re not expecting a feature drop or anything like that.
The Pixel 6 isn’t Google’s smoothest launch from a software perspective. Most owners received the November security patch after receiving their device in late October, but Google did not provide it. release notes until all other phones have November OTA.
Meanwhile, the December 6 Pixel build was delayed by a week, and when it became available, some users in Europe reported calling issues. The OTA has been paused and factory image has been deleted. Finally, Google announced in advance that the January update would not arrive “late” for the month, even though it did roll out eventually. faster than expected.
Hopefully the February patch marks a return to normal for the Pixel 6.
