That LIV Golf Series has not failed to generate its fair share of controversy since its inception. More recently, however, the PGA Tour on Monday announced A$590 million in prize money for the 2022-23 season. The PGA will award $206 million in additional money, including $107 million for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which will be trimmed from 125 to 70 contestants.

The LIV Golf Series, led by ˘has given out the biggest rewards in history to lure PGA players to its Upstart Tour, which is expanding from eight events in 2022 to 14 in 2023. Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson, Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey and Patrick Reed have joined LIV Golf despite criticism of Saudi human rights issues.

“The US PGA will return to a calendar year season in 2024”, Commissioner Jay Monahan announced. “They wanted more penalties for both the regular season and the playoffs.” Monahan added. “We are confident that we have achieved all of our goals.” The 2022-23 PGA season features 47 tournaments, including three playoff events in August: the St. Jude Championship in Memphis, the BMW Championship in Chicago, and the East Lake Tour Championship in Atlanta.

In late 2023 there will be events for players outside of the top 70 to earn PGA status in 2024 and “international events” featuring the top 50 in a limited field, no-cut format. No further details were given. St. Jude and BMW prize money rises to $28 million. Next year’s Tournament of Champions purse in January will be $21 million. In 2024 it will open the PGA season.

Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational in February, Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Invitational in March, Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial in June and the WGC Match Play in March will all increase their prize pool from $17 million to $28 million. March’s Players Championship will award $35 million. The Scottish Open, Barbasol Championship and Barracuda Championship remain sanctioned together.

The 2022-23 season begins with the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California, followed by the Presidents Cup in Quail Hollow. The CJ Cup will be held in South Carolina in October, followed by the Bermuda Championship. Tony Finau’s Rocket Mortgage Classic begins next year on June 29, while the 3M Open runs through July.
