Peaky Blinders ended last night with a feature-length series finale that ended a somewhat mediocre and controversial final season. But if you’re one of those fans who thinks season six was far too dramatic – compared to the gangster show’s previous action-packed outings – to be exciting, then franchise newcomer Conrad Khan is here to dissuade you from that thought.

The young British actor, best known for his performances in The Hunter: Winter War and black mirrorrecently had a conversation with Digital Spy, where he addressed criticism of the finale Peaky Blinders Laufen leaned way too much into the inner workings of Tommy’s criminal empire, reminding everyone that Episode 5, “The Road to Hell,” probably had the most unnecessary scene of the entire series.

“I mean, episode five was pretty exciting. The garrotting scene in the bathroom, that was one of the most violent scenes I’ve seen, certainly on the show. But I study film. I’m studying it at university. I’ve been doing this for a year and a half. And some of the movies we have to see are a bit boring. They’re two and a half hours long, black and white, silent, 1920s, very abstract.

Conrad took on the role of Duke Shelby, Tommy’s surprise child, whom he apparently fathered before he went to the front lines in World War I. The actor goes on to explain why he doesn’t mind if the narrative takes things at their own pace.

“So I don’t mind going into someone’s inner, emotional state for an hour. But I think the show is built on action and suspense. So I can understand why some people might think that. But for me it doesn’t really bother me.”

If you did notice an unnerving lack of action and excitement in Season 6, then don’t waste time watching last night’s finale, as it definitely contained enough of these gripping elements to keep everyone seated.
