Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani join the Ghostbuster Afterlife sequel

Who are you calling? This time it’s Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt!
You are not afraid of ghosts!
Comedians Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani will star in the 2021 sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife, due out in December 2023.
After casting news hit the headlines on Friday, Nanjiani took to Twitter to share his excitement about the film.
“Ghostbusters was my first favorite movie,” shared the The Big Sick star. “I remember exactly how I felt when I first saw him. Horror and comedy in one movie? This film was made for me and I watched it over and over again.”
He also added his praise for the new film’s writers, saying, “The script is incredibly good. I can’t believe I get to be a part of this world.”

Joining Oswalt and Nanjiani in the sequel are James Acaster and Gossip Girl star Emily Alyn Lind. According to Deadline, Gil Kenan will direct the film, while previous director Jason Reitman will serve as producer and writer on the film.
Reitman is, of course, the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters movies.
Afterlife was a reboot centered around the grandchildren of Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis), who not only inherited his house, but also Ecto-1, proton packs, and a mission to stop the evil Gozer. Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard played the kids in the middle of the action, while Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd also starred.
OG Ghostbusters Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson also appeared in the film, as did stars Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts. It’s unclear if they’ll be back in the next film, which reportedly returns to the franchise’s New York roots and iconic firehouse.
