After losing Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, quarterback Patrick Mahomes eagerly welcomed new recipient Marquez Valdes-Scantling to Kansas City.
The Reception Legion of the Chiefs looks different in 2022 than anyone initially expected.
Kansas City has traded the Pro Bowl wide receiver Tireek Hill for the Dolphins. They signed JuJu Smith-Schuster from the Steelers. And now they found another new target in former Packers recipient Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
As soon as the team came to an agreement with the recipient on a three-year, $30 million contract, Patrick Mahomes positive response.
Patrick Mahomes welcomes Marquez Valdes-Scantling as Leader
Valdes-Scantling is used to catching passes from an MVP midfielder. He spent his first four years in the league in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers. However, he’s not exactly the same replacement for Hill.
Hill is the Mahomes lead in each of his career five so far, including three seasons of receiving 1,200 yards.
By comparison, Valdes-Scantling’s career high in yards in a single season is 690 in 2020.
That’s right, Valdes-Scantling was among the Packers recipients who played for the second time after Davante Adams. He may have to make more concessions in an offense that, so far, has no clear #1 recipient.
At the very least, he has shown great playability and can stretch his forte with great speed for a player with the speed of 6 feet 4 to catch the ball.
The Chiefs will have to see how the corps takes on the new look when they enter the field.
Smith-Schuster may prove to be the guy for the captain, but he did his best playing alongside Antonio Brown in 2017 and 2018. A partnership with Valdes-Scantling and Smith-Schuster could mean a lot. than just a bunch of hyphenated names.
Mecole Hardman is Kansas City’s premier wide-return receiver. He’s about to have a season with 693 yards and could push for a bigger role.
