Patrick Mahomes opens up about poor play in Bengals loss

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced that his worst playoff football in the AFC Championship came against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Patrick Mahomes ran them Kansas City chiefs all the way to the AFC Championship since 2018, a stat that illustrates his AFC dominance.

But the Chiefs haven’t advanced to the Super Bowl in each of those seasons: In 2018 and 2021, Kansas City lost the conference and watched their opponent advance to the big game.

Mahomes played an incredible game against the New England Patriots that ended in a narrow loss in overtime, but their loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in January is special still bothers the announced Chiefs quarterback.

Mahomes isn’t the only one believes KC could have won this game: Arrowhead Addict described the 27-24 loss as “complete breakdown.”

After the Chiefs took an early lead in the first half, the team failed to get a first-and-goal in the red zone before halftime. This is how the second half went, to which Mahomes alluded:

  • punt
  • punt
  • intercept
  • punt
  • punt
  • field target
  • intercept

Joe Burrow and the Bengals pulled off a miraculous 21-3 comeback, much like Mahomes did throughout his NFL career. Unfortunately, Mahomes watched the opposing team accomplish the impossible while the Chiefs languished.

Understandably, it’s something that still haunts Mahomesespecially when that game dashed Super Bowl dreams after a draining loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Super Bowl LV.

Patrick Mahomes believes the Bengals’ playoff loss was his “worst playoff football.”

Ironically, Mahomes’ comments were made on the same day that Chiefs podcaster Taylor Witt shared some numbers that had fans reveling in Mahomes’ second-half magic.

Witt looked at some impressive stats, concluding that Mahomes is least likely to be out in three quarters and most likely to come back in the fourth.

The Bengals’ game might not have been Mahomes’ best game, but the legendary Chiefs quarterback is still building a legacy that will go down as one of the greatest in NFL history. Patrick Mahomes opens up about poor play in Bengals loss
