Palia’s team has doubled in size in less than two years as 600,000 players signed up for testing

Cozy MMO Palia is doing its very comfortable horn for its massive sign-up rate and doubling its team since its announcement in 2021. Singularity 6 released a press release this morning with some stats for the game, which is still in alpha.

“Within 3 months of the title’s release, more than 600,000 players completed a survey to test the game, surpassing the number of followers of Steam’s most searched games. […] From the earliest stages of development, the studio has built a highly engaged community that has grown to more than 100,000 Discord members. The studio welcomed nearly 20,000 players across multiple alpha tests in 2022 and 2023. In a single alpha window, players logged more than 167,000 hours in a month, with top players averaging around 200 hours of gameplay. […] In pursuit of the vision for Palia, the Singularity 6 team has grown, more than doubling in size since the game’s announcement, and continues to expand.”

There’s not much meat here, but the announcement certainly signals a shift in marketing. It’s probably also worth noting that the word “MMO” is nowhere to be found in the PR, which refers to the game as an “online cozy sim”.

Palia was first announced almost two years ago as a super cozy “community simulation MMO” and “community simulation massively multiplayer online game”. It started the same summer before the Alpha phase, supported by a further injection of investor capital, and progressed into two Alphas in 2022. Sure it would be nice if this marketing step up was the preparation for beta and launch, yes?
