Padres signed the corner midfielder Nomar Mazara MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported:Twitter link). Mazara is eligible to sign the juvenile pact during the cut-off period as he does not finish the 2021 season on the club’s 40-man roster or the major league injury list, which has been confirmed by the Tigers released in June.
San Diego President of Baseball Operations AJ Preller was a senior member of the Rangers scouting team in 2011, when Texas signed Mazara as an amateur from the Dominican Republic. The left-hander’s immense power potential makes him a coveted man, with Rangers pulling out a bounty of just under $5 million to secure his services.
For a while, that seemed like a great investment. Mazara hit big yields in his first few minor seasons. He continued to impress scouts along the way, emerging as one of the sport’s top 25 prospects in 2016 (Baseball America estimates). He made his MLB debut at the age of 20 in April of that year and looked like he had a good chance of emerging as a permanent fixture at Arlington.
More will come.
