That San Diego Padres made a huge trade as of deadline, but it wasn’t enough to help them secure a playoff spot. After landing the Most Desirable Player and 2022 Home Run Derby Champion, Juan Soto, the Padres have only won one game with him.

Despite being traded for one of the best bats in all of baseball, San Diego has gone 23 innings without batting.

The pads are in for a rude awakening if they fall short of the bare minimum of their expectations.

San Diego gave up several top prospects and young players in a deal big enough for the Washington Nationals to sell their best player. To put Soto’s worth in perspective, the Nationals offered the 23-year-old a $440 million 15-year extension, which would have been the largest contract in MLB history.

The Padres struck a historic deal. So if they don’t make the playoffs, it will be a big disappointment. On the route you are currently on, this is not a guarantee.

According to FanGraphs, San Diego has an 83.4 percent chance of making the playoffs. Although the odds are still higher than most teams, it’s gone down since the deadline. The day before the deadline, their Playoff odds were 84.8 percent. After all trades were completed, this rose to 95.9.

The return of Fernando Tatis Jr. should help the lineup, but should the Padres miss the playoffs with both bats, heads will roll in San Diego.
