Padres GM Issues Ultimatum to Fernando Tatis Jr. After PED Suspension

AJ Preller, San Diego Padres General manager, Fernando Tatis Jr. had some hard truths to say after he was marked for PEDs on Friday.

“I think we’re hoping there will be some maturity from the off-season to now,” he said.
“And obviously with today’s news, it’s more of a pattern and something we need to delve into a little bit more. I’m sure he’s very disappointed, but at the end of the day it’s one thing to say. you have to start showing it with your actions.”

But that wasn’t all he had to say about the 80-game ban Tatis Jr. is facing.

AJ Preller had hopes Fernando Tatis Jr. would show “maturity.”

“I think what we need to achieve is a point in time where we trust. … Over the course of the last six or seven months, that’s something we couldn’t really have.”

Tatis Jr. released a statement claiming responsibility for the slip-up, but blamed it on the tinea medication.

“I am absolutely devastated,” he wrote. “Nowhere else in the world would I rather be than to be on the pitch and compete with my teammates. After initially appealing the ban, I realized that my error was the cause of this result and for this reason I have decided to serve my ban immediately. I look forward to rejoining my teammates on the field in 2023.”
