Packers trade Aaron Rodgers gun for Christian Watson

The Green Bay Packers give Aaron Rodgers a wide receiver by trading to Christian Watson.

After doubling some dawgs in round one with Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt, the Green Bay Packers added a bison to their receiving corps by picking 34th-ranked Christian Watson from North Dakota State in the second round. That must have Aaron Rodgers in ecstasy.

With Packers fans going curd-crazy after Green Bay twice passed a much-needed wide receiver in the first round on Thursday night, they’re getting one of the best players FCS could ever offer in Watson. With Rodgers in the act The Pat McAfee Show‘s Draft Spectacular on Thursday night, he seemed cool with the team’s moves. Now we understand.

Rodgers may never be able to throw to a first-round receiver in Green Bay, but Watson is as close as he’s ever come.

So far the Packers have added Walker, Wyatt and now Watson to their masterful roster. While it certainly hurts to lose the likes of Davante Adams and Za’Darius Smith in NFL free agency, Green Bay is the overwhelming favorite to win the NFC North again. More importantly, the NFC is nowhere near as strong as the AFC in the coming season.

Although it will be all but impossible for Watson to get to Adam’s level as a rookie, the Packers traded to get him with full intentions of him becoming Green Bay’s No. 1 wide receiver before Rodgers finally puts on the spikes . While it took an extra day for the Packers to get their man, Green Bay fans can head into Day 3 of the NFL draft with peace of mind after picking up a wide receiver.

Make sure Rodgers develops a relationship with Watson, who is coming on board this spring, as soon as possible.
