The Green Bay Packers can replace Davante Adams with one of their two first-round picks.
With Davante Adams now playing for the Las Vegas Raiders, the Green Bay Packers have no choice but to replace their former No. 1 wide receiver with one of their two first-round picks.
As part of their return package for Adams from Silver and Black, the Packers have the No. 22 overall pick this spring. They also have their own first-round pick at number 28. While Packers bosses rarely use first-round picks for skill position players, what other options do they have? The good news is they have the resources to design a powerful #1 wide receiver.
There are three guys in the mix for the Packers in the latter part of the first round: Ohio State’s Chris Olave, Arkansas’ Treylon Burks and Penn State’s Jahan Dotson. So who is the wide receiver Green Bay is likely to end up with?
Green Bay Packers: Who Could Replace Davante Adams in the NFL Draft?
In order. Here’s the way to look at it. Olave is the best receiver of this trio. He could be available for the Packers at No. 22, but he could come off the board closer to the top half of the first round. Olave will not be in 28th place. While Burks could be number 28 on the board, Dotson definitely will be. So it really comes down to which wide receiver you covet the most here.
While all three can come in and immediately add to the Packers offense, Olave has to be the guy. If the Packers combine the #22 and #28 picks and need to move up even a little bit to get Adam’s replacement, then they have to do it. Adams may have been a former second-round pick himself, but Olave has been a stud in the Big Ten for years. He also has next to no bust potential.
While it’s not like they can go wrong with any of the three, the perks Olave possesses may be too good to pass up. Yes, he played in the same receiving corps with Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but there’s no doubting how well he played for Ryan Day and Brian Hartline in Columbus. If the Packers land at Olave in the first round, they’ll be happy.
Olave may be a bit out of reach, but the packers have the resources to trade him in if needed.
