The Green Bay Packers must use one of their two first-round wide receiver picks in the 2022 NFL Draft to placate two-time league MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
If the Green Bay Packers don’t pick a wide receiver in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Aaron Rodgers should still be eliminated abruptly.
The Packers have not used a first-round pick against a wide receiver, running back, or tight end since 2002. This is the longest streak of any NFL franchise in the Common Draft era. The last time the Packers drafted a player to a skill position in the first round, Aaron Rodgers was about to graduate from high school. With #22 or #28 picks this spring, the Packers need to end that absurd streak.
While there might be greater value in drafting a high-end wide receiver on day two of the draft, it would be nothing short of organizational misconduct not to commemorate the loss of Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders with one of these top- 32 selections to equalize.
Green Bay Packers need to pick a wide receiver in the top 32 for Aaron Rodgers
At this point, it really doesn’t matter if the Packers have historically done well at picking wide receivers on day two or even day three of an NFL draft. They must do everything they can to give their best and most important player a second Lombardi Trophy before he leaves his prime and rides into the sunset. The Packers haven’t even been to the Super Bowl since the 2010 NFL season.
Given that the Packers had the best record in the NFC last year, one would suspect they’ll once again have one of the most complete rosters in the league. Therefore, they can technically use a receiver with one of their two first-round picks. What Green Bay needs to understand is that the moment Rodgers retires, the team will fall off a painful cliff as Jordan Love is absolutely not the type.
Ultimately, Green Bay has to look at the likes of Ohio State’s Chris Olave, Arkansas’ Treylon Burks, or even Georgia’s George Pickens. As long as the Packers go with a wide receiver before the end of the first round, no one should care what they do in the rest of the draft. This pick is all about making a home run cut to give Rodgers the support he needs.
Everyone is watching the Packers front office to see if Green Bay can get their best player right.
