Packers are ready to spend after expanding salary cap space

The Green Bay Packers created more space in their bid to bring in Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers.

The Green Bay Packers are doing their best to keep the franchise on top of a Super Bowl.

With Davante Adams as a free agent and Aaron Rodgers reserved about his future, the organization is trying to free as much salary cap space throw piles of cash their way in hopes of keeping them in Green Bay.

On Wednesday, the Packers restructured Kenny Clark’s contract, which, according to Field Yates, generates $10,892 million in the 2022 cap space. According to Yates, the Packers converted $13,615 in his 2022 compensation. Clark into a signing bonus and add two years of voidness to his agreement.

Packers free up limited space in hopes of bringing back Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers

This may just be the first of several moves Packers are making to free up additional limited space. Someone initiates speculation Mason Crosby and passers-by Za’Darius Smith may have played their last with the organization. In addition, full-back Jaire Alexander is one of the candidates who could receive an extension to free up more limited space.

Adams could get a franchise pass to return to Green Bay on a one-year contract if the team can’t come to an agreement on a long-term deal with the All-Pro receiver. A franchise tag would suck up salary cap space, so it’s not an ideal situation, but it still guarantees he’ll be wearing a Packers uniform next year.

And that can go a long way in determine if Rodgers is in Green Bay next year.

After a season rife with retirement and commercial rumors surrounding the four-time MVP, Rodgers, who is under contract with Green Bay, has been stubborn about returning to the Packers after receiving his second MVP in several seasons earlier this month.

Handing Rodgers $45 million next season and making sure his goal comes back could make rumors of him wanting to leave Green Bay disappear.
