Ozzie Albies makes his triumphant return to the Atlanta Braves roster this weekend.
After being out of action for three months due to a broken leg, Ozzie Albies returned to the Atlanta Braves The roster is exactly what the reigning World Series champions needed for their postseason push as well as their title defense.
Albies has been in rehab with Triple-A Gwinnett lately. He was recalled to the major league squad on Friday morning after being reinstated from the injury list. As for moves, right-handed backup pitcher Jay Jackson was called up, while infielder Ehire Adrianza was put on the 10-day injury list with a torn left quadriceps.
The switch hitter should hit in the heart of Atlanta’s order and play second base for the Braves.
Obviously, the Braves couldn’t be happier about the Silver Slugger’s return to the starting lineup.
Of course, this move makes the Braves’ loaded roster even deeper and more menacing.
Atlanta Braves: The return of Ozzie Albies to the big league roster comes at the perfect time
While Atlanta more than marked time when Albies was out for the count, Orlando initially took over for Arcia and then rookie sensation Vaughn Grissom responded to the opportunity when Arcia suffered his hamstring injury, the Braves are a better team with Albies in the lineup . Defensively, he has an excellent relationship with shortstop Dansby Swanson. Also, Albies has incredible power.
Even if the leg isn’t 100 per cent, Albie’s return takes pressure off other key players in the squad. Swanson, first baseman Matt Olson and third baseman Austin Riley play every day, so season wear is a real thing. Grissom’s bat and overall athleticism will keep him on the list going forward. He may need to start playing at left field now that Albies is officially back.
The return of Albies will also bring some relief to his best pal Ronald Acuña Jr as he combs through the rest of the season on a weary knee. Acuña can still play DH and the occasional right field, as well as have a few days off in between to recover and try to stay fresh. Albies’ return also helps ease the load on Robbie Grossman and Eddie Rosario, who now have to play every day.
While it doesn’t look like Atlanta will sever ties with Marcell Ozuna now, his playing time will be cut even further if Albies returns to the lineup. If he’s healthy enough to play, Albies will play. This is also forcing manager Brian Snitker to find new and creative ways to get Grissom in the lineup. It also helps the catch tandem to take a breather.
One of the best teams in baseball just brought back one of their best players for the stretch run.
