Overwatch 2 Tank Characters Ranking – The Best Tank Heroes

With the release of Overwatch 2, the tank class was completely turned on its head. By removing one tank from both teams each match and capping shields, they’re less concerned with protecting teammates and more concerned with getting into battles and carving their way to victory. Here is a ranking of the best tank heroes in Overwatch 2.

Ranking of tank characters in Overwatch 2

S rank

  • D.Va, Junker Queen, Orisa

As with the first Overwatch, D.Va is a character who can do a lot. She can dive the enemy team while holding back and protecting her team with Defensive Matrix. Orisa’s rework has concretely turned her into a combat threat, giving her new weapons and more survivability in scrap. She no longer has to hide behind a barrier shield. She will look you in the face and just outlast you. As for the Junker Queen, with her high health regeneration opportunities and Commanding Shout ability, she is one of the most difficult enemies to defeat. She will easily outlast others in a fight and has the thinnest hitbox of any tank.

A rank

  • Reinhardt, Roadhog, Winston

Reinhardt is still the most reliable shield, but now his offensive abilities have been modified to be better. In contrast, you have Roadhog, who is essentially the same as in Overwatch 1, but his Hook ability just got a lot more powerful and harder to defend. He will pull many enemies out of position and get away with Take a Breather. Winston’s placement here has more to do with the strength of Tracer and Genji and how viable we think competitive diving is.

B rank

Zarya was always the best as a support tank in the first Overwatch. Now that she can place multiple Bubble Shields on herself and her teammates at once, she can charge up her weapon faster. Zarya still has the best ultimate in the game, but doesn’t have much movement or survivability to control a fight. Wrecking Ball probably has the highest survivability potential in Overwatch 2, but you’ll need to understand how to use it fairly well before you can make good use of it.

Doomfist’s movement into the tank slot will likely take some time to get right. Rightly so, its damage has been significantly reduced to increase its mobility and survivability. He can slow down enemies, but he doesn’t necessarily feel like a must-have at this point. Sigma still has his return gear from the first game, but now that he would be the only tank on a team he can easily be teamed up. He’s not really ready to take a solo tank spot on a team.
