Outstanding Moment: Lacrosse Beats No. 8 Virginia on the Road

Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team beat the competition and placed eighth Virginia 20-15 to claim the show’s first ACC win of the season to add momentum to the post-season.
20 goals scored is a high season for Tech.
Virginia Tech, (5-10, 1-8) took a 5-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game with goals from Sarah Lubnow, Scammers, Paige Petty and second year Paige Tyson who has a penchant for scoring goals against the Cavaliers.
The Hokies’ onslaught does not stop there, the team will score up to 13 goals in the first goal, the highest number in half a season in 2021.
Virginia, (8-7, 3-7), losing her fifth game in a row, began to close the gap in the second half, but every run was scored from Tech. In the final minutes, the margin dropped to just five, more than 40 minutes from the final moment when the match ended.
Hokie has seen a number of athletes hit the pinnacle of the season, and a career in the game began with quarterback Petty, who has scored six goals, the most for any Hokie in 2021. In the third tally, the Bernardsville, New Jersey native became the first Hokie ever to score 200 goals in a single career.
She shyly two points when it comes to being the show leader in terms of points.
Petty also has the highest 11 draw control of the season.
High level attacker Sarah Lubnow continued her good form scoring three times and adding three assists. Tech’s lead in scores in 2021 has risen to 4th all-time with 53 assists in her career. Her 23 this season is the fifth highest score in a single season at Tech.
The attacker Sara Goodwin scored six points of her own, a career high. She provided 5 assists to bring her season total to 14.
The Crooks have racked up a season-high seven draws in the game and also scored three more goals.
