Our biggest unanswered questions after Season 1

Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for Citadel Season 1.

Season 1 of Russo brotherscitadel did an excellent job of answering some of the series’ most pressing questions. By the time the season finale rolls over, we’ll know who the mole is that told Citadel what exactly Mason Kanes (Richard Madden) and Nadia Singhs (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) relationship and how far Manticore can go while trying to rule the world. That does not mean citadel leaves no loose threads to be untied by season two or the many international spin-offs coming to Prime Video over the next few years. So now that the whole season of citadel is available on Prime Video, it’s time to address the biggest unanswered question the series has left.

What happened to Nadia’s father?

Paul Bazely as Rahi Gambhir in Season 1 Episode 5 of

While Mason and Nadia travel the world to save Carter Spence (Osy Ikhile), one of the few Citadel agents to survive the Manticore attack, Dahlia Archer (Lesley Manville) kidnaps the spies’ daughter to use the girl as a bargaining chip. The kidnapping underscores how powerful Dahlia is, as Nadia made sure not even Citadel knew about her daughter. However, since the kidnapping happens off-screen, we never find out what happened to Nadia’s father, Rahi (Paul Bazely) who guarded the girl. We know Nadia’s father is a dangerous international terrorist, so we can imagine he wouldn’t give up the girl without a fight. But does that mean Dahlia executed Nadia’s father? Season 2 of citadel I would do well to explain what happened to Nadia’s father.

Did Citadel kill Mason’s father?

In the last episode of citadel In season 1 we learn that Dahlia is Mason’s mother. The end of season one also explains why Dahlia left Citadel and focused her spying skills on building Manticore. According to Dahlia, Mason’s father was killed in a bomb attack attributed to terrorists, although the explosions were actually caused by a failed airstrike on the Citadel. While Citadel is the good guy in the story, everyone knows the spy game is dangerous, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the accident actually happened. However, since the Russo Brothers have asked fans to doubt everything they see on screen, it’s fair to ask if Dahlia was telling the truth. Perhaps she made up a lie to convince Mason to give her the confidential documents that led to the Citadel collapse. Or maybe someone else lied to Dahlia to get her to blame Citadel for her husband’s death. It would be nice if Citadel Season 2 gave us a definitive answer.

What will Dahlia do next?

As far as we know, Dahlia was behind the rise of Manticore and the assassination of almost all of the Citadel agents. However, when she failed to retrieve the nuclear warheads Manticore needed to ensure her world domination, Dahlia became a target. So she blew up her house, faked her death, and disappeared into the night. Now we wonder what’s next for the villain. Perhaps Dahlia will pursue Mason and Nadia to get revenge and buy her way back to Manticore. Or maybe she’ll become an independent agent, interfering in Manticore’s plan. There’s plenty of room for Dahlia to reappear as a different kind of villain or unexpected ally. So, season 2 of citadel should explain what happened to Dahlia after her defeat.

Why is Manticore keeping Bernard alive? And where is he?

Stanley Tucci as Bernard Orlick in Citadel

Season 1 of Citadel shows how Dahlia is a ruthless killer, not afraid to drop bodies to clear up unanswered questions. So it’s kind of surprising that she decided to leave Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) alive after depriving him of the information she needed. After torturing Bernard, Dahlia even orders his family’s execution, meaning she doesn’t need pressure to deal with the former Citadel spy. So why keep him alive? This unanswered question leads to another one, as we absolutely need to know where Manticore is holding Bernard. Dahlia mentions a Brazilian base, so it’s safe to assume that Bernard is under the supervision of one of the families funding Manticore. As a reminder, the eight Manticore families come from the United States, Brazil, Mexico, China, South Korea, Italy, Germany and France. For this reason, Prime Video is already developing international spin-offs in Italy, Mexico and India. Does that mean that with Bernard in Brazil we will also get a Brazilian series in the future? That’s something we’d love to see!

Will Celeste get her memories back?

As Manticore raises the stakes to keep the world safe, citadel lets its main characters experience a good portion of personal drama. For example, in the season finale, Mason learns that his wife Abby (Ashleigh Cummings), is actually Celeste, the new spy whose mind he erased to protect Nadia. Now Mason must live with the knowledge that he destroyed Celeste’s life. At the same time, he built a whole life with Abby. Mason will have to deal with the dual memories he has now, but what about Abby/Celeste? If she ever finds out the truth, Mason risks losing his wife, his child, and possibly his life if she ever finds out the truth. Celeste has every reason to hate Mason, even though Abby loves him. Of course we love drama, so we’d love to see Celeste get her memories back. The last episode of citadel Season 1 even sets a precedent for this, when Mason discovered his memories were safe on a secret backup server. Then why not give Celeste the same chance?

Will Mason and Nadia rebuild the citadel?

At the end of citadel In Season 1, all of the main characters who haven’t died or been imprisoned by Manticore meet up at Citadel’s abandoned US headquarters. In the first season, Mason and Nadia became involved with Manticore as they try to figure out who they are and save the people they love. Still, Manticore will remain a threat even if Manson and Nadia choose to go into hiding. This begs the question: will they rebuild Citadel and fight back? This would be the perfect template for multiple seasons, as the rebuilding of Citadel could unite the characters of numerous spin-offs under a common goal. And since Manticore is funded by eight families, there’s ample opportunity for the main series and spin-offs to take on these influencers season after season. Finally, the company is given an overarching goal citadel The universe would help keep fans engaged as Nadia and Mason’s romance isn’t enough to sustain the show long-term.

All episodes of citadel Season 1 is currently available on Prime Video.
