Orlando Brown helps the Chiefs avoid a distraction they couldn’t afford

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown is reporting to training camp Monday and will sign his franchise tag.

That Kansas City chiefs like the other 31 teams in the league, are preparing for an important 2022 season in the training camp. The Chiefs had a player on the offensive side of the ball yet to report and it was left to tackle Orlando Brown. The two sides couldn’t agree on a contract extension, meaning he would play on the franchise tag for 2022. Thing is, Brown still had to sign it.

Well, that’s all changed now, with Brown reporting to training camp Monday and set to play under the $16.6 million franchise tag for the upcoming season. The news was first broken by ESPN’s Robert Griffin III.

Orlando Brown will report to Chiefs training camp and play under the 2022 franchise tag

Monday was an important day for the Chiefs as it marked the first practice session that players would wear pads.

Brown and the Chiefs attempted to reach an agreement on a contract extension by the July 15 deadline, but were unable to achieve it. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team offered Brown a six-year, $139 million contract that included a $30.25 million signing bonus. Still, the Chiefs have an opportunity to negotiate with Brown once the 2022 season is complete.

Having Brown in camp is very important considering he’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ blindside tackle, after all. Not only that, but the offense has also been reworked, especially the passing attack. Gone are Tyreek Hill and Byron Pringle, and newcomers are JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore.

Don’t worry Chiefs fans, Brown will be in touch with the team shortly.
