Olivier Aubin-Mercier wins over Alex Martinez to advance PFL playoffs

Olivier Aubin-Mercier met Alex Martinez at PFL 7 to determine who moved up from the lightweights in the PFL playoffs.

Olivier Aubin Mercier and Alex Martinez met in the semifinals of the PFL Playoffs to see who would advance to Madison Square Garden as the lightweight semifinalists of the championship tournament. The two self-proclaimed friends spoke enthusiastically about each other before their encounter, but Aubin-Mercier and Martinez both made it clear that this was a fight, and so it was here to win.

In the first round, both men traded some shots, but it wasn’t a very exciting round. The second round started with Aubin-Mercier knocking down Martinez and diving into his guard. He spent the rest of the round locking Martinez in a rear naked choke. Despite spending well over three minutes fighting Aubin-Mercier, Martinez was able to survive a third and final round.

Aubin-Mercier started the third round similar to the second, tagging Martinez and dropping him. For the rest of the round, Aubin-Mercier treated Martinez similarly to round two, with a lot the activity.

Aubin-Mercier was able to sweep the judges and win 5-0 in the PFL as he advanced to the lightweight final of the 2022 PFL playoffs.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier advances to PFL playoff finals

Aubin-Mercier is in the finals to determine the PFL Playoffs Lightweight Champion for the 2022 season. Aubin-Mercier will take on the winner of Anthony Pettis and Stevie Ray in November, with the lightweight championship and a cool $1 million going to the winner.
