Olivia Newton-John: ‘Grease’ Cast in London Pays Tribute to Late Star

The cast of Grease The Musical in London’s West End have dedicated the show’s run to Olivia Newton-John, who died on Monday.
Newton-John was known for playing Sandy in the 1978 film and John Travolta played Danny Zuko.
After Tuesday night’s performance, Olivia Moore, who plays Sandy in the show’s current run, addressed the audience in front of a huge Newton John backdrop.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure you all heard the incredibly sad news that Olivia Newton-John passed away last night,” Moore said.
“She played Sandy in the film, of course, and she’s an icon who has inspired countless young artists around the world, especially all of us in this company. It’s such an honor to be able to follow in Olivia’s footsteps each night and perform the songs that have made her world famous to millions of fans who continue to celebrate her incredible talent,” added Moore. “We’re dedicating our ‘Grease’ series to Olivia’s memory and all that she stood for.”
Moore also said a fundraiser was held at the theater’s exits for Breast Cancer Support, a charity focused on preventing and controlling the disease that Newton-John has garnered much attention for.
The “Grease” musical follows the Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies as they navigate the trials and tribulations of their senior year at Rydell High. Transfer student Sandy Dumbrowski opens up about her wild summer romance with heartthrob Danny Zuko. Sandy doesn’t know that Danny is also at Rydell High.
Grease The Musical, directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, plays at London’s Dominion Theater until October 29.
