Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl scores 50th goal of the season in win over Ducks

Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl scored his 50th goal of the season in Edmonton’s 6-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.

Draisaitl’s landmark goal came at 16:02 in the third period. He had an assist early in the period to reach 100 points and is now 101 on the season thanks to the goal.

Draisaitl and Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews are in a close hunt for the Rocket Richard Trophy. Matthews currently has 51 goals in 63 games while Draisaitl scored his goal in his 70th game.

The 26-year-old Draisaitl, who won the 2020 Hart Trophy and led the NHL as the leading scorer this season, has already scored 50 goals in 2018-19 and has never led the NHL as the leading scorer.

Edmonton improved to a 40-25-5 record, good for third place in the Pacific Division. Draisaitl’s teammate Connor McDavid hit 100 points with a goal and an assist against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday and leads the league in goals.
