Odds for Laremy Tunsil’s Next Team

I think it’s safe to say that the writing has been hanging on the wall for a while when Houston Texans were getting ready to switch to the Laremy Tunsil word left.

Tunsil tore a ligament in his thumb at the start of the season and, despite a roughly four-week return schedule, he has never stepped foot back on the court.

The 27-year-old Tunsil is one of the highest-paid players in the league after signing a $66 million extension, with $57.65 of that total secured with Houston.

After all the movies from last year, namely Deshaun Watson, Texas is probably entering a rebuilding year and Tunsil has the potential to bring in a lot of draft picks if the team swaps him out. There are a number of teams that could be Tunsil’s destinations and we’ve listed a few below with some hypothetical odds on his chances of getting there.

The Bengals don’t have the best draft picks to use as Tunsil’s cards, but they are the only team to have shown any interest so far.

Well, at least Tunsil is getting interest from Bengals players to move to Cincy. Bengals full-back Mike Hilton played with Tunsil at Ole Miss and it looks like he’s trying to get him into the AFC defending champions. He tweeted at Tunsil yesterday that “we need to talk.” Tunsil replied with “bet!” While this is far from anything official, it’s more than we’ve had from any other team so far.

Despite making it to the knockout stages, the Bengals need a lot of help to improve their offensive line and protect Joe Burrow. An improved line would also allow more time to find Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Tunsil is widely regarded as one of the best pass saves in the NFL and will be a huge upgrade for the Bengals. Bengalis certainly have a limit to get it done.

Based on current draft ordering, team rosters, and team needs, the Panthers could be the most likely landing spot for Tunsil. Especially if the Texans are hoping to get some quality draft picks back when the Bengals don’t even have a first pick this year. GM Scott Fitterer has also made it clear that he wants to improve the team’s offensive line.

This and finding a midfielder are their main priorities going forward. With pick 5 in the draft, the Panthers have the leverage to make this deal a reality.

The Giants are in the same boat as the Panthers. They need a much better O-line and perhaps an upgrade in QB. No player of the quality would want to play for a team with such a front line, so the giants will want to handle that first.

The Giants also have a sixth pick in the NFL draft for barter, along with everything else. New York may want this a little more after giving up the opportunity to draft Tunsil back in 2016 but instead drafted the now-famous Eli Apple.
