OAKLAND (CBS SF/BCN) – A health order issued during the height of the omicron increase requires Oakland restaurants, coffee shops, gyms, and other indoor businesses Confirmation of complete immunization status of all customers 12 years of age and older will be effective February 1.
The ordinance was unanimously adopted by the Oakland City Council at a special meeting on December 27, 2021. It has two phases. On January 15, businesses covered by the ordinance were required to prominently display an advisory notice informing patrons of the new requirement.

The actual ordinance is set to go into effect on February 1. Similar ordinances have been issued in several Bay Area jurisdictions, including San Francisco, Berkeley, and Contra Costa County.
Since that time, the increase in omicrons has decreased significantly. Several local cities and counties have reduced their strict indoor mask policies this week.

Under Oakland’s ordinance, proof of a completed initial series of vaccines will be required for entry to entertainment venues, food and beverage service facilities, gyms and fitness centers, facilities aged care facilities, Oakland City Hall and major city and private indoor events. owned buildings.
Persons entering affected properties for a short period of time to use restrooms, make reservations or pick up items, or make necessary repairs will not be required to present proof of vaccinations as per the policy. of the city.
Adults must also present photo identification with proof of vaccinations. Persons with a valid medical exemption for the COVID-19 vaccine must provide proof of that waiver and a recent negative COVID test result.
