Five-star quarterback CJ Carr, the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, spurned the Wolverines and became involved with Notre Dame Football.
Marcus Freeman’s recruiting ability continues to give Notre Dame football a tremendous boost, this time at Michigan’s expense.
The Irish received a pledge from five-star quarterback CJ Carr on Thursday. That’s notable just because Carr is one of the top QB prospects in the Class of 2024. He is also the grandson of Michigan national title-winning head coach Lloyd Carr.
Carr probably should have been a layup for the Wolverines, but Freeman, OC Tommy Rees and Notre Dame got the nods instead. It is a sign of how power could shift in favor of the Irish under the new regime.
The quarterback also considered Michigan State, Wisconsin, Georgia and LSU.
Notre Dame football signs CJ Carr
Carr is ranked #20 on the 247Sports composite for 2024 and ranks fifth among quarterbacks. He’s the #1 prospect in the state of Michigan.
All Trieu from 247Sports called Carr a “very intellectual player” with good accuracy and arm strength.
As a second starter in 2021, Carr threw for 2,696 yards and 28 touchdowns. He only had four interceptions.
Carr is one of three signings for Notre Dame in the Class of 2024. Having the elite quarterback on board early should give the Irishman a key player to build the rest of the class.
It’s still early for the class of 2023, but Freeman is showing his skills in this group as well. His 14 engagements have placed Notre Dame first in the 247Sports Recruitment Class rankings.
