A man fatally shot his old college roommate and turned the gun on himself before the victim met his mother at a nearby cafe, a witness said.

“He went up behind her, and shot her,” Long cliff told WFAA belong to Nicholas Twining20, murder Caitlin Rogers21. Both Rogers and Twining are from Coppell.

Police in Coppell, Texas, speak they received a 911 call around 11:13 a.m. Wednesday about a shooting in the 400 block of Houston Street. Police found Rogers dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to witnesses, Twining fled the scene. Officers said he was later found nearby with a self-inflicted wound, and he was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

They were once college roommates, police said before adding, “however, no dating relationship has been confirmed.”

The University of Oklahoma, where Rogers and Twining were roommates, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Law & Crime.

Long, a Coppell city councilor, said he also saw Twining shoot himself.

“He ran around our house, and the house next door, stopped, and put the gun to his head,” Long said.

Police did not specify why Twining attacked Rogers. They only said that this appeared to be due to “the situation in the country”, according to the WFAA.

“Just a tragic thing,” Long said. “21 years old, just starting out. It was really painful.”
