Four of the division’s six defending champions lost in Week 12. And the order near the top of the NFL Power Rankings continues to change.
ONE dozens of weeks into the season and some of the teams that have had solid starts are having problems. There was a grown-up moment in Cincinnati, a continued revival in Foxborough, and a healthy helping of yellow flags on Thanksgiving Day in Dallas.
So how has another set of surprising results impacted the NFL Power Rankings?
NFL Power Rankings: Week 13
Houston Texas 2-9
Last week: L, 21-14 vs NYJ
Final ranking: 30th
After a stunning win over the Titans at Nashville, David Culley’s club managed to win two in a row hosting the Jets. Team Texas took a 14-3 lead in the second quarter thanks to a couple of knockdown passes from Tyrod Taylor.
But Houston ran into problems for the rest of the run and New York scored the final 18 points of the game. Taylor intercepted once and was fired five times. And Houston’s defense allows 157 yards.
Detroit Lion 0-10-1
Last week: L, 16-14 vs CHI
Final ranking: 29th
It’s a Thanksgiving Day tradition that dates back to 1934. And the Lions were hoping to finally win for the first time this season. Jared Goff made 21 of his 25 throws and finished with two points. But he only threw 171 yards and lost once.
The Detroit crime only managed a total of 239 yards. But the Lions were unable to leave the field for most of the fourth inning and the Bears won by a goal on the field in the last inning of the game.
Jacksonville Jaguars 2-9
Last week: L, 21-14 vs ATL
Final ranking: 28th
It’s been another tough year for the franchise, but Urban Meyer’s team has shown signs of improvement over the past two months. But they will lose to the Atlanta Falcons, 21-3, in the third quarter.
Rookie Trevor Lawrence threw 228 yards and scored a point but had one of the team’s two turns. Jacksonville’s defense gave up 149 yards in this latest defeat. Jaguar has been limited to 17 points or less in five consecutive games.
New York Jets 3-8
Last week: W, 21-14 at HOU
Final ranking: 32nd
Rookie defender Zach Wilson was back in control as the Jets headed south to Houston in a 2-8 team battle. The second overall pick in the April draft ended in the afternoon with 145 yards in the air, throwing a pick and getting fired four times.
Robert Saleh’s team overcame a 14-3 deficit in the second quarter. And John Franklin-Myers line of defense put up a pretty nifty intercept by Texas quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
